DUBLIN, Alameda County — October 23, 2026. Residents have until 11:59 p.m. Sunday, November 1, 2026 to give their views on three finalist designs for a new public art installation planned at Tassajara Road and Dublin Boulevard. The City of Dublin’s October 14 announcement says a new plaza at this prominent gateway will display the eventual selected artwork.
What is being built?
The plaza forms part of Dublin Centre, a mixed-use community with five neighborhoods containing detached housing, townhomes and live/work shophouses, along with retail areas, walkable streets and a public park. The city says thousands of people are expected to pass the area. Artwork here could therefore become one of the public images associated with Dublin’s changing urban center.
Can residents actually select the winner?
The municipal announcement describes the online questionnaire as an opportunity to view the three shortlisted designs and explain which best represents Dublin, the location and community identity. The feedback will be shared with the developer Risewell Homes and city staff before the Heritage and Cultural Arts Commission and City Council review and approve the final design. The survey is meaningful input, but it is not itself a binding public referendum.
What might voters consider?
Public art decisions can raise questions of local history, cultural inclusion, durability, accessibility and ongoing maintenance. A large roadside gateway piece must also work for pedestrians, cyclists and drivers without creating avoidable traffic distraction. The current city announcement does not establish which design will be chosen or how much the completed installation will ultimately cost; those matters should be confirmed through later agenda documents.
What is the next step after the survey?
The city’s identified process includes further review by cultural arts commissioners and the City Council. Residents who want to comment beyond the questionnaire can follow official agendas, presentations and public-comment procedures through the city’s meeting portal. Because Dublin recently migrated parts of its agenda software, using the updated agenda links is important.
How to participate
